Solo Trip Adventure to Penang – Part 1

Hello everyone!

It’s been a long while since you’ve seen us and me writing! I’ve been really busy with work that I didn’t really have time to sit down and write my stories. I am in the midst of writing out my trip for Taiwan that happened the year before and also thinking through whether I should journey down my Tibet trip that happened last . The trip to Tibet was with a tour group so I might pen down my thoughts and reflection instead of my usual style of writing with details.

With the current COVID situation, I hope everyone is doing well and taking good care! It’s a good time for me to catch up in my writing too :)

And right as I was starting to write this article, I was actually in Penang! This is probably my 3rd or 4th solo trip that is super spontaneous as I only book my tickets 2 weeks prior and barely had time to read up or plan – only did that just right before my flight which was delayed. And oh well, I guess that’s the fun part of it – really going with the flow and see where it leads.

I’ve only been to Penang when I was a child and very little memory of it! All I remember was the Asam Laksa and the Temple that I’ve been to! I hope to be able to finish up this series of posts as I go along.

Apart from the slight delay, my luggage was also badly damaged; it’s so important to purchase travel insurance, no matter how short/long the trip is, thank goodness I did. I was really upset though – one of the wheels dropped off and the luggage crack very badly :/ and now I have to source for new luggage in the next few days.

Alright, enough my ranting! Here’s a short introduction to my accommodation &  From the airport to my accommodation, I took Grab. Grab is commonly used in Penang and relatively safe! I took Grab for airport transfers as well as for my travel from point A to point B – though, for most of the trip, I actually walked – clocking an average of 15,000 steps each day.

After reading up several options, I decided on Kim Haus – which is not only an accommodation option but also a cafe. I wanted a private bathroom and wasn’t really sure if the loft was a shared or private bathroom so I got one that is the executive option – the room was very spacious and the bathroom was actually outside the unit.

If you were to stay in options with the shared bathroom, you can also use their common spaces. They also have live music every night which you can tip the local musicians at the end of their performance.

I hope the first part has been useful! Will be sharing on my itinerary of what I did for the next part.

Till then, ta!
